The Bruins released an update regarding players who have gone under the knife this offseason.
Brad Marchand
Brad Marchand had surgery to repair a sports hernia and is making a full recovery. Rehabilitation is going well and expected to make a full recovery four months from the procedure date. That would put him at 100% by January which is when the season is projected to start. Depending on the official start date, I would expect him to miss a game or two.
David Pastrnak
Pastrnak underwent hip surgery and is on the mend rehabbing. He’s on the road to a full recovery and the expected time table is five months from the surgery date, projecting him to be at 100% by February.
If the season does start in January, Pasta will probably be out for a month.
Charlie McAvoy
McAvoy had knee surgery and is cleared for regular offseason activities. He’s expected to be ready to go once the season starts.
The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
Good news: The surgeries went well and it looks like they’re all rehabbing. Two thirds of the players will be back which is always a positive.
Not so good: However missing David Pastrnak is a problem. He was your leading goal scorer last year and contributes to the best line in hockey. His presence is vital to the Bruins team. Losing his offensive talent for maybe a month could be detrimental to the team’s success.
Don Sweeney has not made a lot of improvements to the Bruins roster. There are pieces missing and gone forever that have not been replaced. The biggest thing that’s been eating at me since the announcement has been Nate Schmidt for a third pick in 2022. The Bruins are in desperate need of an LD and yet, Sweeney missed the perfect opportunity the snag one at a really low price.
Try Not To Panic
It’s still early in the offseason and Dealin’ Donny might have another plan up his sleeve. If not, I would expect more and more fans grow more frustrated. Sweeney is probably the most inconsistent GM to win GM of The Year.
