Airing of Grievances: Red Sox Style

Welcome to my grievance hour. Today I will be discussing how much I hate the Red Sox ownership.

For reference, the team is worth $6.6 BILLION.

The Boston Red Sox ownership have shown just how cheap they are this offseason. They traded away their best player and a top three player in the entire league for a dude who can’t play because of back problems.

David Price and Mookie Betts are now Dodgers. I couldn’t care less about David Price, honestly. He was like an annoying itch that wouldn’t go away for his entire stay here, with exception to the 2018 postseason. See ya, thanks for the championship.

I’ve got a gripe with ownership. You trade away Mookie Betts, the second best player in baseball, behind Mike Trout all because you’re cheap and don’t want to pay him superstar money.

There’s no way John Henry hasn’t been taking advice from the Mets’ owner, Jeff Wilpon. John Henry didn’t want to pay Mookie Betts money he can afford.

For those of you who aren’t aware, John Henry and the Fenway Sports Group, own Liverpool… a successful soccer/football club. With their recent success, it makes sense that they are investing in the team there. Which means they have to cut corners with the Red Sox. I don’t know how it specifically works but I know Liverpool fans do and they don’t like how the ticket pricing is and a lot of similarities back on this side of the pond with the Red Sox.

Mookie Betts did not need to be traded. He didn’t. Paying Mookie Betts was always an option. Henry released a statement saying he had face to face meetings with Mookie and made him offers each time. That’s nice. I would laugh in your face too if you tried to low ball me on my worth.

It’s a whole lot of words for saying nothing. I don’t know.

I’m just tired of this team raising ticket prices and making it cost $500+ for a family of four to go to a game. Sam Kennedy reported that ticket sales are behind 15% where they want to be. I can’t imagine why.

Rick Porcello is gone too. Yeah, they let Pretty Ricky walk away and sign with the Mets.

Your starting rotation looks something like this:
1. Chris Sale
2. Nathan Eovaldi
3. E-Rod
4.???
5.??

If you had a David Price trade in the works for why wouldn’t you pay Rick Porcello? You’re already over paying Eovaldi… There’s no salary cap in this game just give him a one year deal for $7m.

I’ll tone it down and talk about the most recent offseason move.

Brock Holt signed with the Brewers. Yeah, our favorite Red Sox dad is gone. Some people have dubbed him as “the most overrated utility man” but to a lot of us he was more than that.

Of course his contribution on the field will always be appreciated but for me personally, it was his outreach within the community.

Brock Holt did a lot of work with The Jimmy Fund. He’d be there for fundraisers and telethons but also visited the children and their families.

As a former sick kid, I can’t explain how happy it made me to see other kids meet someone who could bring so much joy to them. Brock seemed to light up around them and distract the kids from the bad in their life.

There’s no doubt in my mind that the Holt family will continue these efforts out in Milwaukee.
