Tuukka Take Tuesday: We Need To Talk

Bruins Twitter

Tuukka Rask was granted a leave of absence late last week. The specific reason for his leave was never released. We were told that it wasn’t health related. Fans immediately began speculating and sending out their version of condolences. I’m not going to rehash what went down because I’m sure we’re all aware. If you need a recap please read my piece over on Stanley Cup of Chowder.

Tuukka took time away from the team to deal with his issue. He was back at practice Tuesday morning. I was relieved to see him there, not because I think he’ll save this team from a sweep on the road but because of a little thing called empathy.

Speculation stems from holes in a story or lack of confirmation. I was scrolling through twitter after class and saw the most outrageous claim. I would feel irresponsible if I circulated this tweet one, because there’s no proof and two, it’s none of our business.

I’ve seen a majority of people show empathy and decency towards the situation. A lot of the journalists who make him the butt of their joke take it easy on him Do they know something we don’t? Maybe, maybe not. I’m not saying Tuukka needs to be handled with kid gloves but show some respect, please.

Rask spoke during media availability today and shed some light on the situation.

Does it really matter what the issue was? How does it affect your life? Will tweets about the situation pay your bill? Is it really going to make that big of a difference in YOUR life? If it’s behind him, the fans and the media can put it behind them.

UPDATE: Rask had a lot to say during media availability.
