Tuukka Take Tuesday: Two U’s, One Goal

Tuukka Take Tuesday is back! I missed last week due to a maintenance day. I know, slacking after one week… What else is new?

Halak had a thirty-nine save night on Saturday but Tuukka Rask was named the starter for Monday. He’s not going to get better on the bench but why wouldn’t you want Halak in net against a rather good team?  This moves had Bruins fans scratching their heads. I won’t chastise every move ( listen to my podcast for that ) but starting Rask might not have been the best idea.

Rask let up the SOFTEST goal in NHL history in the first period. Fans took to Twitter to express their distaste.

That was the only goal that Tuukka let through. 24 out of 25 saves is not bad. If you want an in depth analysis of this team you can tune into my podcast. I was a big fan of how the defense played. I do think Rask will win the starting job but it’s going to take some time. Right now, it belongs to Halak.

It’s easy to jump down Tuukka’s throat and be critical of him. You need to have grounds to be hard on him. Look at the team in front of the net. Is the defense sleeping? Could they have helped Tuuk out a little bit? Was it realistic for him to stop the puck?

Rask noted in his post game presser that goaltending and mentality go hand in hand. The confidence needs to be there. If you don’t have a chance to show off what you’ve got, then you’ll lose that spark.

We’ll have to see who takes net on Thursday against the Canucks. Let’s give Tuukka two in a row. Maybe it’s what he needs.

With that… I’ll see you next week.
