After a tough weekend in the Bronx, the Boston Red Sox started the week off in Washington DC. They’ll play a three-game series in the nation’s capital. The Nationals are six games out of first place in the NL East, while the Red Sox are tied for first in the AL East.
Rick Porcello nearly went yard against Max Scherzer. Imagine, Rick Porcello, hitting a GRAND SLAM off of one of the best pitchers in baseball? Instead, he hit a three-run double to give the Red Sox an early lead.
One of my favorite things about Rick Porcello is how he doesn’t lose momentum after a slip-up. The fourth inning started off with him giving up a solo shot to Anthony Rendon. He was able to get out of the inning almost unscathed. Of course, you expect a professional athlete to not let something throw them off kilter. However, you look at David Price and see that once the odds are against him, it’s all downhill from there. Anyways, back to Ricky… He’ll leave you holding your breath when he gets in a jam. Let’s take it back to the fifth inning. Runners on first and second with two outs. It’s not an ideal situation. There’s hope though. It’s Pretty Ricky…He won’t let it happen. He can’t. And just like that… Porcello gets out of it.Unfortunately, the rest of the night did not go as smooth. The right-handed pitcher gave up another solo shot to Daniel Murphy, who hadn’t hit a homerun sine 2017…
Rick was done in 92 pitches. He went six innings and struck out five. The base-clearing double will never be forgotten. The teams meet up Tuesday evening where Brian Johnson ( RHP ) and Tanner Roark ( RHP ) take the mound.
