Domestic violence is something that plagues many relationships. Sometimes there is no escape route. If you or someone you know are being affected by DV, please reach out to the Domestic Violence Hotline at,  1−800−799−7233. If you cannot use the phone, you can also get in touch through this website.

Slava Voynov nearly beat his wife to death. The police report is public record and the findings are absolutely horrifying. The LA Times reported that the argument started outside of a Halloween party. Mr. Voynov punched his wife in the left jaw before they headed home. The argument continued when they got home. Voynov kicked his wife, Marta, six or seven times while she was laying on the ground. It’s also reported that he choked her three times.

Around the bed. In the shape of a handprint on the wood floor. On the comforter. In a trail leading to the bathroom.

The NHL suspended Voynov indefinitely soon after the incident happened. I couldn’t find if the suspension is still being upheld but, the Montreal Canadians are in fact interested in signing him. There will be backlash regardless of where he signs. Why would anyone want that kind of player in your locker room? It’s kind of ironic that Montreal is going after him considering they traded PK Subban for “character issues.”

Regardless of where he signs, it will be a PR nightmare. Personally, I don’t understand how any GM could welcome someone like that onto their team. I’m sure there would be locker room problems. The thought of him playing in the NHL makes me sick. There’s not a doubt in my mind that certain players would make him a target. There’s not one scenario I’ve thought of where the positives outweigh the negatives. In fact, I don’t see any positives.

Domestic violence is a very serious issue. We hear about DV situations almost daily. Victims don’t always have an easy way out. Sometimes it’s too late before they ever get the chance to leave. Marta Varlamova, deserves to have peace. Seeing him pay for his crimes outside of jail time could do just that.

“My blood, all over bedroom and bathroom,” Varlamova said in a recording. “And it’s not first time.”

How can you say someone deserves a second chance? You’re telling me that a man who knocked the memory out of his wife DESERVES to play in the league again? No. This isn’t a petty crime situation. He almost took a life. If you have some sort of reasoning other than “Everyone deserves a second chance!” please feel free to enlighten me. I would love to hear your non-misogynistic take!

This doesn’t make Blackjack uniquely a casino game.
