24 Hours With A Sense of Smell

Not having a sense of smell has always been my “party trick”. I’ve never smelled a rose. I’ve never smelled a fart. I’ve never smelled a skunk that everyone in the car complains about. I’ve always imagined a life with a sense of smell. How different could it be? What exactly am I missing out on?

I’ve always wanted to wake up to the smell of something cooking. I’m not a big breakfast person but something tells me I’d love the scent of cinnamon rolls. A fresh pot of coffee paired with the most delicious breakfast food ever sounds like a beautiful start to the day. After soaking up the new scent, I’d love to take an adventure to a public garden. I’ve always wanted to know the difference between a tulip and a rose. Other than their color, what sets them apart?

This day would have to take place during the summer. There’s no way I’m not going to know what the beach smells like. I want to know what the salty air smells like. What is it like to smell the air around you after a long day in the ocean? Is there anything better than that scent? I’d probably find myself at a candle shop too. It kills me that I’ve never been able to smell a burning candle. On my way home I’d find a neighborhood. People have always oohed and awed about the scent of fresh cut grass. I really want to know if it lives up to the hype. Before the embarking on the rest of my journey, I’d shower and use the best smelling body washes and lotions I could find. Maybe I’d even find a perfume I really like!

I’ve always wanted to know what a fresh baseball glove smells like. Growing up, my dad always said he loved the freshness of a new glove. After taking that in, I’m going to Fenway Park. I’ll finally know what home smells like. All the popcorn, hot dogs and beer will finally have a scent put to their name.

I would hope I’d be able to store these scents in some compartment and pull them out whenever. I would love to have some sort of memory of that glorious twenty four hours.
