Trade Deadlines Will Probably Kill Me

Trade deadlines are going to put me in an early grave. Some teams are desperate to make moves and other teams don’t need to make any adjustments. Sadly, the front office might not always see it the same way.

Monday happened to be the NHL trade deadline. I held my breath almost all weekend. Trade rumors were flying about DeBrusk leaving Boston and I couldn’t deal with that. I have a real soft spot for him and I have since the preseason. Truthfully, I wasn’t ready to relive the pain of when Nomar was traded. Boston did make some moves. They traded for Rick Nash. Listen, I wasn’t completely sold on this. I just wanted someone who would score goals. Fifteen career playoff goals isn’t enough to sell me. Maybe it’ll sit better with me once the playoffs roll around.

NHL fans around the world were convinced, Erik Karlsson ( OTT) would be dealt. There was no way he was going to stay in that dumpster fire. The guy deserves a Stanley Cup. He’s one of the best defenseman in the league. Apparently, no deals lived up to the Senators’ standards. It will be interesting to see where things go from here.

Tampa Bay might’ve won the trade deadline. They were able to snag Ryan McDonagh. Listen, I’m still kind of hockey illiterate but I know that people like this guy. I can’t break down all these stats but I just know that he’s better off on a winning team.

Sometimes it’s better to say goodbye to a player. If changes need to be made, make them. You can’t win ( or improve ) if you don’t do something about the problem. Some teams had the upper hand. Some teams had no chance at all. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season. We’ve got a long way to go before we see one team with the prize that everyone wants.
