The Sweet Sounds of Spring

What’s better than the sound of a fastball hitting the sweet spot on a bat? Absolutely nothing. Baseball is back and I’m ready to go wild. Free agents are signing. Darvish in Chicago and Hosmer to San Diego. We’re getting somewhere. It’s not ideal but, I’ll take it.

Can we talk about how unsigned free agents are getting the own spring training? Initially I thought this was something Boras had begged and pleaded for. Much to my surprise, it wasn’t. I’ve read that his clients won’t even be attending this special camp. It’s great that they’ll be able to workout and partake in spring training. However, I’m tired and just want them to sign. Someone’s gonna need to wake up and realize they aren’t worth $383m over eight years. ( Dramatic, I know.)

Truthfully, the Section 10 Podcast among with the Starting 9 podcast kept me sane this offseason. There was no baseball coverage on the radio. There’s only so much you can talk about when nothing is happening. However, these podcasts managed to produce great content week in and week out. My heart belongs to Section 10 but Starting 9 opened my eyes to what else is happening around the league. Its’s great getting different perspectives from different professionals. We don’t deserve podcasts.

I have a bone to pick with Twitter fans. This specifically goes towards the beloved members of Red Sox Nation. The day the Yankees signed Giancarlo Stanton, the Sox twitter account tweeted “Rivalry 🔥🔥🔥”. Ever since then, people have been telling them to delete their account. That poor social media intern… Their mentions are always filled with things like “don’t tweet until you sign a big bat” on a daily basis. It isn’t Dombrowski tweeting. Do you think the intern or whoever runs the twitter account is going to go to Dave and say, “hi, I can’t do my job until you do yours?” Absolutely not. I know the Sox are lacking. Tweeting and blaming the person behind the team’s twitter account isn’t going to accomplish anything.

Spring Training is underway. The first sign of spring is here. I’m sure every baseball fan is ready to spend summer nights at their favorite ballpark. I know I’m ready for Fenway Franks and potential road trips to new parks. Here’s to the 2018 season!
